ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Summary


The Senior Mechanical Engineer will design and develop non-invasive medical device mechanical/electromechanical systems. Assignments are broad in nature, usually requiring appreciable initiative, originality, ingenuity and excellent problem-solving skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • As part of the Product Development team, perform one or more of the following duties as assigned by Program Manager to support the team’s goals:
    • Serve as technical lead/project engineer for major development projects or multiple simultaneous projects. Ensure that engineering design activities are coordinated per the development procedure.
    • Work closely with electrical and software engineers, designing with system-wide perspective.
    • Responsible for leading, participating in or supporting the following product development activities:
    • Concept, planning, design and execution stages of major new products or product enhancements
    • Risk assessment
    • Prototyping/testing
    • Pilot Production
    • Design reviews
    • Verification
    • Validation
    • Pre-production
    • Assist in project planning and provide technical team leadership in project execution.
    • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the mechanical engineering team.
    • As a member of multiple cross-functional teams, create and release Product Requirements, Design Specifications and Design Descriptions for assigned projects, as required by applicable medical device standards and internal procedures.
    • Research design options and perform experiments to determine potential design feasibility.
    • Interact with global and internal design and manufacturing resources to design for manufacturability, reliability and cost-effectiveness.
    • Review product documentation for accuracy including documentation intended for customer use.
    • Evaluate product non-conformances and recommend design modifications.

Qualifications:

Minimum

  1. Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of five years experience in medical device mechanical design and manufacturing.
    • Experience working in cross-functional teams.
    • Experience with Pro-E and AutoCAD.
    • Experience with electro/mechanical design.
    • Experience with rapid prototype design and build for proof of concept and usability testing.
    • Technical team leadership ability.
    • Desire to drive accountability across project teams and functional team members.
    • Interpersonal & Verbal/Written Communication.
  2. Experience working in cross-functional teams.
  3. Experience with Pro-E and AutoCAD.
  4. Experience with plastic injection mold tool design including insert molding and over-molding as well as integration of in-mold decoration (IMD).
  5. Experience with rapid prototype design and build for proof of concept and usability testing.
  6. Technical team leadership ability.
  7. Desire to drive accountability across project teams and functional team members.
  8. Interpersonal & Verbal/Written Communication.
  9. Experience working in a start up environment

Preferred:

    • Experience in Robotics
    • Project Management experience.
    • Experience with Medical Device Directive (MDD), ISO 13485, FDA design controls or similar regulatory environment.
